IoT Workshop

 
The IoT Workshop is one of the Satellite Events of the 5th International Conference on Dynamics in Logistics – LDIC 2016 and the jointly held 7th IFAC Conference on Management and Control of Production and Logistics (MCPL 2016).
 
The term Internet of Things (IoT) describes the networking of everyday objects. While in the consumer sector, many applications already exist, industrial application is still in its infancy. At the same time IoT promises to be enabling technology for many applications of the industry 4.0 discussions.
 
This IoT Workshop addresses industrial users, researchers, and doctoral candidates to discuss potentials of industrial IoT applications and apply latest technologies to prototype solutions.
 
The purpose of the workshop is to gain knowledge of todays industrial IoT efforts and discuss potentials and limitations of todays IoT technology and infrastructure. To achive this, one main pillar of the workshop is a hands-on prototyping session with the IoT team of the iotfablab and PTC ThingWorx in which participants will create their very own IoT application either with low cost single board computer or even industrial PLCs. The second main pillar of the workshop will be the discussions of application and business models for industrial IoT.
 
 
Course of the Workshop
Participants for the workshop should be interested in discussing and learning about IoT technology. They should bring a general interest and capabilities in software programming. They will work in small groups and will jointly support each other as well as receive individual feedback and support from the workshop team.
 
The iotfablab as a facility at the BIBA – Bremen Institute for Production and Logistics – at the University of Bremen offers key ressources for industrial and research projects including single board computers and electronic devices, sensors, RFID equipment, wearable computing systems, industrial PLCs and industrial sensors for designing “smart products” as well as enhanced IT infrastructure for data acquisition, processing and visualization. Furthermore, the University of Bremen is cooperating – amongst others – with PTC ThingWorx, a leading state-of-the-art platform for IoT applications.

Registration
Participants of LDIC 2016 or MCPL 2016 can join the workshop without addional fees. Prospective participants can also obtain a one-day ticket according to the LDIC fees (150 €) to participate at the workshop. Registration fee includes the attendance, morning and afternoon coffee breaks, lunch and get-together session.
